North American Missions
North American Missions has the primary responsibility
of planting new churches in those regions of North America
that are unreached by state associations. The churches of
the Baptist Missionary Association of America are located
predominantly in six states: Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi,
Oklahoma and Missouri. Of the 1,288 churches and missions
listed in the 2003 Directory and Handbook, 1,148 of them are
located in these six states. This leaves only 140 churches
throughout the remaining 44 states and one in Canada.
It is estimated that approximately 35 million people live
in these six states. This accounts for 12.5% of the approximate
280 million population of the United States. Approximately
93% of BMA churches are located where only 12.5% of the population
resides. The responsibility of North American Missions is
to reach out to those 245 million people in the United States
and the 28 million in Canada with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
The Partnership
Program
The Partnership Program has become the best
way to support new missionaries. Sixty percent of a Partnership
missionary's salary is guaranteed by the Baptist Missionary
Association of America and the remaining 40% is provided through
supporting partners who contribute the balance of the salary
and all ministry funds necessary to maintain the church-planting
effort.
